Getting Rid of the Ho-Hums – Energize Your Business and Your Life

Woman with Hands on Temples“I used to like my job” a client said to me recently. “I thought I had a lot to offer to the company and to my boss.” She went on to say how things had changed and described the disillusionment and dissatisfaction she was currently experiencing with her work.

Have you ever felt similar about your work or even about a relationship in your life?

Situations at work, or at home, change over time and we can find ourselves wondering what happened and what needs to happen to return to a satisfied state. We lose our energy and enthusiasm and don’t know where to turn to get it back.

If this describes you (or someone you know) consider these three powerful tips to refocus your energy and start down the path to reclaim it:

1) Identify and manage stress.

Feeling stressed slows forward progress. Remember stress isn’t something that happens to someone. It’s something someone feels about what’s happening. Your capacity to deal with any outer situation is based on your inner perspective. An athlete competing in a marathon doesn’t quit during an uphill climb because she doesn’t see the workload as negative. It’s getting her where she wants to go: the finish line. How we see things determines our level of stress. How we see ourselves determines how we interact with the events of the day.

2) Manage your moods and emotions.

To manage your moods and emotions you must first identify what these moods and emotions are and why you have them. With this information you can choose to act rather than react to yourself and to people and events around you. Interpersonal effectiveness is one of the most important aspects of your business, and life. The more you understand and express your emotions the higher your emotional intelligence and the more effective you will be in whatever you do. Emotional Intelligence equals Interpersonal Effectiveness.

3) Remove Inner Conflict.

We can remove much of our conflict with others if we have no conflict within ourselves. When conflict arises it’s often occurring between our head (which is clouded with judgments, impressions, fears, doubts) and our heart, which knows the truth. If we are clear in our body, mind and spirit, we feel less conflict within, so we don’t argue as much with others. Checking-in with ourselves to identify sources of inner conflict, and then taking steps to resolve it, allows us to show up fully in our experiences at work and in life, baggage free.

Using these three tips to shift your energy to the positive you can begin to create daily work and life experiences that are deeply satisfying. You’ll move from “I hate my job/life” to “I love it!”
